Mission
MISSION
A murder refers to a group of crows. Similarly, a group of geese are referred to as a gaggle and a group of owls are referred to as a parliament. We emphasize the importance of team, and despite competitions in powerlifting and weightlifting being largely about individual performance, training as part of a team is essential for long term growth.
Our club also gives tribute to the history of Crown Heights where we first started. Crow Hill was the name of our first neighborhood before Crown Street was paved in 1910. Developers were weary of the name due to its association with the Kings County Penitentiary, which was most commonly known as Crow Hill Penitentiary. The neighborhood saw rapid growth with the name change as the jail was torn down and the subway came to Eastern Parkway. In 1980 the Crow Hill Community Association was founded and has helped promote a resurgence of the name.
Our mission is to create space for all people to feel safe enough and inspired enough to transform because to change the world, we have to change ourselves.
What We Do
WHAT WE DO
Weightlifting & Powerlifting
We offer top notch training in the sports of weightlifting and powerlifting with a friendly and approachable coaching staff. Our club is unique in the sense that we discourage our members to ‘just get their workout in.’ Here we support each other no matter what weight is on the bar and no matter how young or old we are in our lifting career. We are a community.
Our facilities are dedicated to the barbell sports, and we have designed them so you can learn and grow in these sports.
Weightlifting is the barbell sport where two lifts are contested: the snatch and the clean & jerk. This is the only barbell sport that is in the Olympics and is one of the original Olympic sports in the modern Olympic era. To be successful in the sport of weightlifting an athlete must be strong, fast, and very flexible. The movements are complex, but with proper coaching, anyone can learn!
Powerlifting is the barbell sport where the three BIG LIFTS are contested: the back squat, bench press, and deadlift. These three lifts allow the human body to lift immense loads. This is the sport for those looking to get strong. Powerlifting is a very approachable sport where anyone can get started AND hard work is rewarded!
